Article Citation :Ahmed M. Al-Hasem , (2022 ) " Lateral and Longitudinal Variations of Channel Morphology and Sedimentology Throughout the Al-Subiya Tidal Channel: Indirect Approach " , International Journal of Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology(IJASEAT) , pp. 47-52, Volume-10,Issue-4

Abstract : Abstract - Al-Subiya tidal channel, Kuwait, is an example of an open-ended tidal channel located in an arid, mesotidal environment. The geomorphological characteristics and the hydro- and sediment-dynamic parameters of the channel were investigated in order to determine its process-response and morphodynamic characteristics. The investigation was undertaken using indirect approach to infer the process conditions from the characteristics of channel morphology and sedimentology which take place at a variety of spatial scales as a result of the variation in process characteristics. Despite the small area covered by this study, the channel geomorphology and sedimentology throughout the Al-Subiya tidal channel show wide lateral and longitudinal variations. The structure of this study is to discuss the variations in lateral (east-west) and longitudinal (south-north) patterns in order to relate them to the spatial variations in processes. Geomorphological indicators (an indirect approach) reveal that three main processes, namely tide, aeolian and wave, control the morphology and sedimentology of the Al-Subiya tidal channel. The way in which geomorphological and sedimentological characteristics vary laterally and longitudinally within the channel are in response to gradients and variations in energy regime and sediment inputs. In general, tidal processes are dominant in the entire channel, aeolian processes affect the western coast and wave activities affect the southern part of the channel. Finally, the morphodynamic characteristics of the Al-Subiya tidal channel are controlled by a complex set of interactions including the geology of the region, channel morphology and bathymetry, tidal processes, aeolian processes, wave regime and sediment inputs/outputs and dynamics. Keywords - Al-Subiya Tidal Channel, Tidal Processes, Aeolian Processes, Wave Activities, Indirect Approach.
