Abstract : Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, and also in many parts of Iran, it is ranked first to
second in number. Despite the fact that skin cancer is the most common cancer in Iran, its epidemiology has not been regularly
reviewed in the country and studies are limited in this area. Given the prevalence of most types of skin cancer and the lack of
comprehensive information about this type of cancer in Kashan city, this study was conducted to determine the frequency of
skin cancer in this city. Data were collected using documented data. All cancer cases were documented in Pathology
Laboratory of Kashan University of Medical Sciences that were used during of 2009 to 2017 and recorded in cancer registry.
Skin cancer was studied. UV index (UV-I) data from well-known meteorological sites have been extracted over the
(2009-2017) time period. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics (Chi-square test and ANOVA) were
analyzed using SPSS (ver. 16) software. The results showed that the prevalence of total skin cancers in this city was 26.5%
during 2009-2017. In this regard, 79% of the prevalence of skin cancers has been devoted to the type of muscle relaxant. Also,
these values for spinoscellular and malignant melanoma types were found to be 16% and 3%, respectively. In age, the mean
age of people with skin cancers was 48 years old, and no differences were observed in the age groups of all types of subtypes,
and men showed higher incidence of skin cancers than women. The long-term survey of the UV index in the Kashan city
shows that in eight months of the year, it was higher than 6 (with high to high risk). Skin cancer is one of the most common
cancers in the city of Kashan, especially in men, and should be given the training needed to reduce the risks and prevent people
living in this city.
