Abstract : The present study was conducted during the year 2017-2018 to evaluate the growth performance of one-year-old Fig varieties and the effect of different cultural practices on some vegetative growth parameters in a multilayer system of planting. Seven Fig (Ficus carica L.) cultivars namely; Black Mission, Brown Turkey, Calimyrna Red, Calimyrna White, Sequoia, Sierra, and Tina grown in sandy soil under drip irrigation system were used in this study. The manuring practices, prophylactic control measurements against nematodes, the pruning methods and intercropping of Fig with vegetables and Date palms were the major cultural practices performed. The results regarding the effect of cultivars on growth characteristics such as plant height, shoot diameter, number of branches, and growth rate was insignificant between the cultivars in both the sites (p<0.05). However, the stem thickness of four cultivars, namely Calimyrna White, Tina, Sierra, and Calimyrna Red was significantly higher than those of cultivars Black Mission, Brown Turkey, and Sequoia in site A (p<0.05). Meanwhile, no significant differences were found between the cultivars in stem thickness in growth characteristics in site B (p<0.05). Concerning the influence of site on the growth characteristics of seven cultivars studied, no significant differences were noticed between the sites A and B (p<0.05). Generally, the results concluded that the cultivars significantly varied only in stem thickness values while plant height, shoot diameter, number of branches and growth rate did not vary among the cultivars and the sites.
