Author :Bawo Teddy Ikolo, Felicia Adaobi Ikolo

Article Citation :Bawo Teddy Ikolo ,Felicia Adaobi Ikolo , (2018 ) " Universal Cure for Sickle Cell Disease is Too Slow in Coming " , International Journal of Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology(IJASEAT) , pp. 9-11, Volume-6, Issue-3, Spl. Iss-1

Abstract : With advancement in technology and human travels, sickle cell disease (SCD) is now a global burden, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. SCD is the first molecular disease that was described so many years ago. Progress has been made in the treatment and management of SCD and affected individuals now live better and longer. However, the fact that a safe and universally applicable cure for this life-threatening disease has not been found to date, despite technological advancement (especially in molecular medicine), means that such cure is too slow in coming. Index terms– Anaemia, Gene editing, Gene Therapy, Molecular disease, Red blood cell disorders, Sickle cell disease.
