Abstract : Curcuma caesia belongs to Zingiberaceae family, Genus Curcuma are highly valued worldwide for their
medicinal and economic significance, specifically the use of Curcuma longa (Turmeric) in medication, culinary and
cosmetics is well known since centuries. However, the pharmacological importance of other endangered and endemic
species i.e. Curcuma caesia declared by forest department of Chhattisgarh has not being extensively studied. Therefore, in
the present study the primary phytochemical screening of successive extracts of rhizome of C. caesia were performed for
detection of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, carbohydrates, protein, glycolipids etc. In another study of plant extracts was also
used for the in vitro antidiabetic test by spectroscopic analysis based on alpha amylase inhibition assay. In this study result
was compared with standard curcumin and camphor and last conclude the ethyl acetate extracts of rhizome C. caesia showed
highest antidiabetic potential as compare to other solvents extracts. Further studies, column chromatography of ethyl acetate
extracts was performed for fractionation of compounds which is responsible for antidiabetic activity. Fuctional group
analysis of most relevant plant extracts was evaluated by FTIR analysis. Structural compound which were present in C.
caesia were examined by GC/HR-MS analysis.
