Preparation and Characterization of Gadolinium-Graphene Oxide Composite for Adsorptive Removal of Arsenic (V)

Abstract
Synthesized gadolinium-graphene oxide (Gd-GO) composite was well characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Surface scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Trans emission microscopy (TEM) and surface area measurement studies in-view to use for adsorptive removal of arsenic(V) (As(V)) from ground water. The spectroscopic studies confirm the purity and yield of prepared Gd-GO composite with having favorable adsorption characteristics. The adsorption characteristics studies revealed that the 99% removal of As(V) was achieved at room temperature and pH 2.0 by using 0.6 g/L Gd-GO composite and 60 min equilibrium time. The adsorption kinetics of As(V) onto Gd-GO was well described with pseudo-second-order kinetics.
