Abstract : The instability of natural convection for small and moderate Prandtl number in a fluid-saturated porous layer heated from below and subject to vibration is investigated theoretically using dynamical systems approach. A feedback control strategy is applied with an array of sensors situated at the top of the fluid layer and boundary actuators at the bottom layer for chaos elimination. The Galerkin truncated approximation is employed to derive a low dimensional Lorenz-like model. It is shown that suppression and enhancement of chaotic convection is possible via feedback control.
