Abstract : To promote dietary health, support for referencing dietary intake to render authoritative judgment is essential for
encouraging healthy food intake. With the advancements in mobile technology, the use of a mobile tool can encourage
appropriate dietary intake. In this study, a mobile AR food system was implemented on a university campus as a personal
health tool for college students. Students were encouraged to record their dietary intake and analyze their daily nutrient intake.
Students’ self-reporting of their intake behavior was assessed before and after the use of the AR food system. Paired t-tests
indicated a significant effect in most criteria after use of the system (p < 0.01). The results of the study suggest that the use of
the mobile AR system increased students’ awareness of various nutrient contents in their diet. However, tuning of the system
for ease of use is required for future implementation.
