Paper Title :
Effect of Wind Speed on Water Quality Parameters

Author :Sherine Ahmed Elbaradei, Mai Wagih Alsadeq

Article Citation :Sherine Ahmed Elbaradei ,Mai Wagih Alsadeq , (2019 ) " Effect of Wind Speed on Water Quality Parameters " , International Journal of Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology(IJASEAT) , pp. 16-20, Volume-7,Issue-4

Abstract : Wind has a great effect on water and its turbidity. The water currents induced by wind and also the change in water velocity induced by wind have a great effect on the hydrology and thus the quality of water in rivers and other waterways. This research is concerned by studying the effect of the wind on different water quality parameters. The main Sheikh Zayed canal of Toshka project in the New Valley governorate in Egypt was taken as case study. The studied water quality parameters are dissolved oxygen (DO) and total dissolved solids (TDS) in water. The effect of wind on these two water quality parameters is simulated. The simulation shows an increase in the DO concentration from 5.092 to 5.102 mg/l in summer as wind increases gradually. As for the TDS; it shows an increase from 2% to 5.5% in June which corresponds to the maximum increase. Whereas the minimum increase in TDS concentration is 0.5% to 2% which occurred in February. Keywords - Irrigation Canals, Wind Speed, Dissolved Oxygen, Total Dissolved Solids, Flow Velocity, Water Quality.
