Article Citation :Muhammad Fajar Setiaji ,Sukirno , (2018 ) " The Development of Coalbed Methane Field in Indonesia using Hydraulic Fracturing Technology " , International Journal of Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology(IJASEAT) , pp. 1-7, Volume-6, Issue-3

Abstract : As an unconventional reservoir, coalbed methane (CBM) field has its own challenges in the field management, where the dewatering process takes a long time before commercial gas rates are achieved. This condition take place due to the permeability of the reservoir is low, and gas flow rate as well. To increase field productivity and accelerating the dewatering process, the Hydraulic Fracturing technology in CBM field is analyzed. This study will be focus to find the optimum Proppant design of fracturing at Rambutan field where silica sand (SS) and resin coated sand (RCS) in various size are the main variable. The stimulation design is using pseudo-three dimensional (P3D) model to get fracture height, width and length distribution in reservoir layer, then the result will be used to calculate production gain after fracturing process. The reservoir permeability after fracturing is compared with initial permeability and shows an increasement from 4mD to 14 mD, which result in gas rate increase up to 3 times from initial rate. The significant finding is that, the maximum field production can achieved in 17 year after initial production with 226.5 BSCF/annum of gas rate. This is important because, most of CBM field takes 25 years to get its maximum production. The 16/30 RCS Proppant type was found to be the best Proppant type for fracturing in CBM reservoir proved by the highest permeability result. The use of RCS Proppant could create longer fracture than other Proppant type. Keywords - Coalbed Methane; Hydraulic Fracturing; Proppant
