Abstract : In current clinical practice, cerebral aneurysms that located on the anterior communicating artery (Acom) are
affected by the blood flow of bilateral anterior cerebral arteries (ACAs). However, the blood flow interaction between
bilateral ACAs and the Acom remains unclear. The ideal vascular geometry based on clinical magnetic resonance
angiographic images was created by SolidWorks. Two simulation models were set up using different A1-Acom angles
(group I) and diameters ratios (DR; group II). The inlet velocity profile was used from the electrocardiography
measurements. The outlet pressure of the A2-ACA was from the patient cerebral perfusion pressure. The results showed that
the maximum velocities of A1 of ACA were about 217.53, 217.08, 217.58 cm/s for A1-AcomA angles of 135, 145 and 155
degrees in Group I. In Group II, the maximum blood velocities were 248.15, 112.44, 94.52 cm/s for DRs of 40%, 70%, and
100%, respectively. We observed that the diameter ratio of bilateral A1-ACA serves as a major determinant of the blood
flow and pressure distributions in the Acom. The computational fluid dynamics method can provide a noninvasive method to
assess the blood flow in anterior cerebral arteries.
