Paper Title
Antimicrobial Anthraquinone Isolated From Streptomycessp. Isolate Eri-26
Abstract
Streptomyces sp. isolate ERI-26 obtained from the Nilgiri forest soil of Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu was screened
for its antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The methanol extract showed activity against bacteria and
fungi. The antimicrobial novel anthraquinonewas purified by bioactivity-guided fractionation using a silica gel column and
preparative HPLC. The compound was identified by spectrocopical data UV, IR, NMR and MASS. The isolated compound
showed significant antimicrobial activities against tested microbes. The compound inhibited the growth of tested bacteria,
Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, fungi; Trichophytonmentagrophytes,
Trichophytonsimii, Aspergillusniger, Aspergillerflavus,Trichophytonrubrum, Trichophytonrubrum, Magnaporthegrisea and
Botrytis cinerea.
