Paper Title
Study of Jute Fibres Filled Polypropylene Composites

Abstract
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic material having excellent mechanical and thermal properties. It is relatively stiff and has a high melting point and good resistance to impact. Jute is a strong fiber exhibiting brittle fracture but having a small elongation at break but very little recoverable elasticity. Jute fiber is hydrophilic in nature. In order to improve dispersion, adhesion and compatibility for a system containing hydrophillic fiber and hydrophobic matrix a coupling agent is used. The coupling agent can modify the interface by interacting with the fiber and the matrix, thus forming a link between the components. In this study, the effect of the jute fiber with different fiber weight% concentration on the mechanical properties of the polypropylene composites with maleic anhydride polypropylene(MAPP) as coupling agent were studied. The polypropylene composites of jute fiber with coupling agent were prepared by twin screw extruder machine. The standard test specimens were molded on Compression moulding machine. Mechanical properties were determined as per ASTM standards using these test specimens. It was found that with the addition of jute fiber along with coupling agent in polypropylene composite, tensile strength, impact strength and hardness are found to increase with increase in jute fiber concentration. % Elongation decreases with increase in % loading of jute fiber.
